Ex-Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince thinks Champions League win will bring Premier League glory to Anfield

Paul Ince thinks Liverpool’s Champions League win last season has given them the taste for Premier League success, The Mirror reports.

The former Liverpool midfielder told The Mirror that the club’s European glory will equip them with the confidence needed to win the Premier League. That is the one title missing from Liverpool’s trophy cabinet since the Premier League inception in the early 1990s.

Ince has played Premier League football for the Reds. And now he thinks the Merseyside club are ready for their first Premier League title. Using last season’s Champions League win as a “catalyst”, Ince predicts that Liverpool will beat Manchester City to the top spot this season.

Ince said (via The Mirror): “What I like about Liverpool, from winning the Champions League against Tottenham, is they have that belief now. I think losing the title last year destroyed them, but the fact they had a game after and won the Champions League it gave them that lift – that confidence to win it.

“We did it at Man United in 1991 when we beat Barcelona in the European Cup Winners’ Cup. It was the catalyst. You could sense the different mentality in the players – we could beat anyone, because once you beat Barcelona, you can.”

TBR’s view

Liverpool overcame a mental block with that Champions League win. It has clearly boosted the confidence of a group of talented footballers who are all pulling in the same direction under Jurgen Klopp.

Something special is brewing at Anfield and the fans are starting to believe. With an eight-point lead already, it is very much in Liverpool’s hands. But Klopp will be eager to guard against complacency and to get the job done in a professional manner.
