On the night where Celtic bowed out of the Europa League, a former target scored the winning goal to send his new team through.

Fran Sol was chased by both Celtic and Rangers during the January transfer window, as per The Sunday People via HITC Sport.

But Sol instead left Dutch club Willem II to join Ukrainian top division side Dynamo Kiev.

Sol made his debut last Thursday, playing 90 minutes as Dynamo Kiev secured a 2-2 draw away from home against Greek heavyweights Olympiakos.

But the former Real Madrid man played a central role in the second leg, scoring the only goal in Dynamo Kiev’s 1-0 win.

Dynamo Kiev progressed 3-2 on aggregate, thanks to a 32nd minute strike from Sol.

The 26-year-old had scored 12 goals in 17 games for Willem II prior to his move so it was no surprise to see Celtic and Rangers chasing his services.

Celtic have been rotating between Odsonne Edouard, Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke up front, while Vakoun Issouf Bayo is another striker option.

Rangers, on the other hand, have been reliant on the goals of Colombian forward Alfredo Morelos.

Jermain Defoe was brought in but he is still finding his feet, while Kyle Lafferty has been disappointing since his summer switch from Hearts.

Sol could have bolstered the striker departments at either Glasgow club but instead moved to Ukraine, where he has already found the net with a significant goal.
