Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has been singled out for praise by AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli ahead of their Europa League clash on Thursday night.
Neil Lennon’s charges are desperate to put their dismal Glasgow derby loss behind them, but they’re up against a tough foe, particularly in a Parkhead without fans spurring the Bhoys on.
However, one player likely to shine for Celtic is the talented, ever-reliable McGregor.
The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Celtic and, following an impressive loan spell at English lower-league side Notts County, set about making a name for himself at Parkhead.
To date, McGregor has made 288 competitive appearances for the Bhoys, registering 51 goals and 58 assists, and has won a multitude of trophies including six Premiership titles.
“One player who has particularly impressed me is the midfielder Callum McGregor,” Pioli is quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying.
“He is a classic modern, dynamic midfielder and excellent technique. He is everything you need.”
There isn’t really much more that can be said about McGregor, one of Celtic’s finest homegrown players in recent years, who has written his name in Parkhead folklore thanks to his displays, hard work, and silverware haul.
With the Premiership campaign temporarily on ice, attention turns to the Europa League tonight, and hopefully the £20,000-a-week ace will be able to deliver on the big stage.
