Everton star Idrissa Gana Gueye put in a fine display against Cardiff City on Tuesday.

The Senegal international started for the Toffees at the Cardiff City Stadium and was brilliant for the visitors.

Not only was he his usual combative and tenacious self, but he also showcased some flair in the second half with a nutmeg and assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal.

It was a solid all-round performance from Everton, who really needed to get back to winning ways after a recent slump.

Marco Silva’s side sit ninth in the Premier League table and are now just four points off seventh – their highest possible finish come the end of the season.

Gueye showed why PSG want him

Gueye’s recent form, like most of his teammates, had not been sparkling going into the game with Cardiff, but he really reminded everyone of his quality in Wales.

He saw plenty of the ball with 87 touches, and made three key passes (via WhoScored).

He also made three tackles and four clearances and collected a match rating of 8.39 – bettered only by Lucas Digne and two-goal Gylfi Sigurdsson.

It was a dominating display from Gueye, the kind that would explain why a top team from Europe would be interested in signing him.

Paris Saint-Germain bid £26.2 million for the player in January (Sky Sports) but Everton stood firm.

It is understood to be Gueye’s dream to play for PSG, and it appears he is playing to ensure the French champions don’t lose interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window, just as he recently told L’Equipe he would.
