Everton’s failure to sign a striker could frustrate Richarlison for rest of the season

Everton made no signings in the January transfer window and most importantly didn’t sign a centre-forward to improve the attack.

The Toffees should consider it a failure that there was no new striker signed at Goodison Park to help them push for the European spots in the second half of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Merseyside club renewed interest in Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi in January before he ended up joining Crystal Palace on loan (confirmed).

The report detailed how Marco Silva wanted someone new to lead his attack, which eventually has not happened.

That leaves inconsistent duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun in contention for the striker role, but it’s likely that Richarlison will suffer with the fallout from no new signing.

Richarlison has impressed since he made the summer switch to Everton and been one of their bright sparks of the season.

The 21-year-old Brazilian has now scored 11 goals and supplied two assists in 25 goals across all competitions.

But Silva has used the dazzling attacker in a variety of positions including on the left wing, striker and on the right flank.

Richarlison is best deployed on the left, but a lack of quality at striker has seen him fill in numerous times and it looks like that may have to continue unless Tosun or Calvert-Lewin improve.

It’s a pity that arguably Everton’s most talented individual will have to be sacrificed in a sense for the rest of the campaign.
