Indeed, the Polish striker was many people’s choice to the FIFA World Player of the Year before the pandemic halted the footballing world.

Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, has enjoyed a fine start to the season and will be looking to continue his run against Manchester United this weekend.

And the Everton striker, when pressed on his influences and who he likes to watch, admitted that Lewandowski is the man of the moment.

“He scores so many goals. As a young centre-forward, if I’m to look along the line of top centre-forwards, I would look at Robert Lewandowski and study his game and see what positions he gets in, because I feel he’s got similar attributes to what I have”. (Liverpool Echo)

Of course, Calvert-Lewin would love to go on and emulate the big striker. 63 goals for Poland is impressive enough, while 258 goals in just under 300 games for Bayern is an outstanding record.

The Everton man has grown in stature since arriving at Goodison for a bargain fee from Sheffield United. Having been called up to the England squad already, he got off the mark on his debut last month.

Calvert-Lewin’s rise is a brilliant one and he’s clearly put in the work and graft behind the scenes to hone his craft at Everton.

His comments on Lewandowski suggest he’s a student of the game and there aren’t many better strikers to watch than the big Polish forward.

Everton fans will be hoping Calvert-Lewin can continue his current run and try and fire the Toffees into the European places.
