Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins marked his England debut with a goal in Thursday night’s World Cup qualifying win over San Marino.
The 25-year-old came off the bench and rounded off the scoring for the Three Lions, a good touch followed by a neat finish into the corner of the net for a 5-0 win.
It marked yet another milestone in what has been a swift and stratospheric rise for Watkins, who has been superb for the Villans since joining last year from Brentford.

He has hit the ground running in his first Premier League season, registering 10 goals and three assists in 28 top-flight appearances, plus two goals in three League Cup games.
“He’s been really sharp,” Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who Watkins replaced in the match, told Sky Sports. “He’s a nice lad. It’s the first time I’ve come across him.
“I know what it feels like, not too long ago, to step into the squad, and the feeling he’ll have now, scoring on his debut is something he’d always have dreamed of.
“He came in a little bit late [to the dressing room after the match] and we all gave him a big clap and he had a big smile on his face and I’m very, very happy for him.”

Just six years ago, Watkins was in the Conference South with Weston-super-Mare, while four years ago, he was playing in League Two.
Now, he is a prolific Premier League scorer and England international – and given his talent and attitude, he’s sure to go even further.
