Everton will no doubt be looking to improve their squad this summer but what is now clear is how important it is that they trim their wage bill this summer.
With the financial impact of the global health crisis, Everton can no longer afford to be paying wages to players who are simply not in with a chance of playing regular first-team football or developing in that way.
It seems the wheels are already in motion for the clear-out to begin. Indeed, it seems two Everton players will be off to France this week. As reported by the Liverpool Echo at the end of last week, Fraser Hornby’s £1.8 million move to Stade de Reims is all set to be completed.
Morgan Schneiderlin will follow. As reported by Nice-Matin, the Frenchman is due in Nice early in the week to finalise a £1.8 million move.

It is just £3.6 million in terms of transfer windfall, but it will help Everton reduce their massive wage bill and it will not be the end.
The likes of Cuco Martina, Oumar Niasse, and Maarten Stekelenburg should soon follow when their contracts expire at the end of the month. Everton will undoubtedly be looking for new homes for outcasts such as Yannick Bolasie, Sandro Ramirez, and Mo Besic.
Then there are young talents who appear to have not made the grade. Callum Connolly, Matthew Pennington, and Kieran Dowell for example, it is hard to see them sticking around.
Everton have already told the likes of Matty Foulds, Morgan Feeney, and Alex Denny that they can leave when their contracts expire. All three were once considered potential future first-teamers.
That makes 14 players that could easily be on their way out of Everton this summer and that list could easily grow.
Starting with Hornby and Schneiderlin this week, the big Everton clear-out could be about to begin.
