Everton attacker Ademola Lookman is reportedly on the radar of Premier League club Southampton.

According to the Daily Star in its print edition (8 January 2019, page 47), the Saints want to try and sign the dazzling 21-year-old.

It is understood that Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to make the winger one of his first signings, as he previously had him on loan with former club RB Leipzig.

Lookman performed exceptionally well during a short-term loan with Leipzig last season, scoring five goals and supplying four assists in return.

The England Under-21 international is a speed machine that would inject real energy to the Southampton team and interest makes sense.

But Everton would be foolish to offload the wide man and supporters should fume if he is allowed to depart Goodison Park.

Lookman has had a frustrating first half of the season with Everton and has failed to score in his 12 senior appearances.

But there is no doubt the fleet-footed attacker has the tools to succeed in the Premier League and the Merseyside club must not give up on him too early.

He can provide a much greater attaching threat than some of the wingers in the Everton squad right now and over time should fit in well with Marco Silva’s philosophy.

Everton signed Lookman for £11million (BBC) in January 2017 and the best is definitely yet to come from him.

He’s shown in glimpses his quality in English football and they could massively regret offloading him to Southampton, but fortunately for Everton fans right now there doesn’t seem to be anything more than interest.
