A report in The Times has stated Everton will be on the hunt for a new right-winger in the summer transfer window, but it will not be Wilfried Zaha.

The Toffees were heavily linked with a move for a new winger in the summer and Zaha was seemingly a top target.

As reported by The Telegraph, Everton had a £52 million bid for the player rejected by Crystal Palace in the summer.

In the end, Everton turned to Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and the Nigerian has struggled to find his best form at Goodison Park.

The Times now suggests that financial fair plays considerations allowing, Everton will be on the hunt for a right-winger in the summer. However, Zaha is no longer considered an option because of his high price-tag and decline in form this season.

The report also suggests that Everton made no further attempts to sign Zaha after their initial £52 million bid was turned down, with Palace valuing Zaha at £80 million.

TBR’s View

Despite the recent upturn in form from Theo Walcott, fans at Everton will desperately want to see a new wide-man brought in at the end of the season.

Richarlison is wasted out wide considering his recent form in attack whilst Bernard and Iwobi strongly favour playing on the left-hand side. In recent games, full-back by trade Djibril Sidibe has been asked to play on the right of midfield when needed.

But with the club’s finances likely to be under intense scrutiny, a deal for a player of Zaha’s price-tag is simply not going to be possible.

Hopefully, director of football Marcel Brands can identify a top value option to fill this gap in the Everton first-team.
