Everton watch Benfica, hopefully Haris Seferovic is on their radar

According to reports in Portugal, Everton had an official at the game between Benfica and Santa Clara this weekend. Sapo suggest Everton had a presence at the game as Benfica claimed the Portuguese title with a 4-1 win.

The brilliant Sport Witness have summed up two previous Benfica players Everton have been linked with in left-back Grimaldo and Andrija Zivkovic. With Lucas Digne thriving and Zivkovic not featuring it is unlikely Everton were keen on either of those players.

So who were they watching?

Everton fans might want to hope that it was Swiss attacker Haris Seferovic. The 27-year-old scored twice on the night and has had an incredible season for both club and country.

He has scored 27 goals in 51 games for the Lisbon side this season, an incredible return. On top of that, he has shone for Switzerland. Seferovic was the top scorer in League A of the UEFA Nations League, with five goals from four games. He will hope to add to that tally when Switzerland take on the Netherlands in their semi-final next month.

Everton still need another striking option. Cenk Tosun has failed to find consistency and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal-shyness, unfortunately, belittles his work rate.

Seferovic is seemingly edging into his prime with his best ever season in front of goal, 32 goals from 56 games for club and country.

Everton would be wise to have been assessing the Swiss striker last night.
