Report: Everton want Bordeaux youngster Josh Maja; Chelsea also keen
Everton are battling Chelsea to complete the signing of Bordeaux forward Josh Maja, according to the Daily Star.
The Toffees have made a secret scouting trip to monitor the youngster and they could be tempted to take him to Goodison Park.
Maja has scored five goals and registered two assists in 10 appearances this season. The forward arrived in France from Sunderland in January 2019.
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to make his own stamp on the squad during the January transfer window.
His team were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City yesterday but there has been an upturn in performance levels since he arrived.
Everton have Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean who can play as the lone striker.
Maja’s arrival would complement a nice quote of young talent and see the Toffees land a potential future star.
Ancelotti has said that no transfer discussions will take place until after the FA Cup game with Liverpool which takes place on Sunday.
TBR View – Maja looks to fit the Everton transfer model
Signing Maja could prove a shrewd piece of business or it could flop. When younger players are added there is simply no guarantee of success.
The forward has the attributes to make an impact though. He is quick, direct and is capable of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Ancelotti is an experienced manager and he won’t be splashing the cash on anyone who he doesn’t think can make a first-team impact.
The 21-year-old was a hit at Sunderland and he will surely relish a Premier League opportunity.
According to Chronicle Live, he cost the French outfit £3.5 million and it will be interesting to see what sum it will take to now prise him away.
Everton have had great success over the years with young players.
Their academy has unearthed some real gems, whilst they have also shown willingness to sign talented gems.
As a result, Maja looks like a nice fit for Everton.
