Everton are reportedly joining the race to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer. According to a report from Le10 Sport, Everton are chasing the Dutch star along with Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be a big fan of the player and believes he could have a significant impact in the heart of the Toffees midfield.

But it is not just the current manager at Everton who is a fan of Van de Beek, a former Goodison Park chief is also a fan.

Ronald Koeman is currently the manager of Van de Beek’s Dutch national team. Whilst he tends to prefer Atalanta midfielder, Marten De Roon, as the partner of Frenkie De Jong and Gigi Wijnaldum in the heart of the Dutch midfield, he still has Van de Beek as a regular member in his squad.

It is something of a selection headache for the former Everton boss. But as he told NU.nl last May, it is a ‘wonderful’ problem to have.

“The development of Van de Beek does cause a luxury problem, but I think that is wonderful.

“The success in Europe has proved to be great for the development of Ajax players. Many players have grown and Van de Beek is the best example of this. He is knocking even more on the door than he already did.”

Van de Beek would undoubtedly be an exciting signing for Everton, even if he does currently struggle to find a starting spot in Koeman’s Dutch national team.

Of course, he will not come cheap. A recent report from Football.London suggested a valuation of £47 million with the player very keen on a deal to join Real Madrid instead, with Tottenham Hotspur also keen.

Everton fans will no doubt be hoping they can win the race for one of Europe’s most adaptable midfield options.
