Everton are reportedly interested in the signature of AS Roma winger Cengiz Under. As reported by Tutto Mercato Web, Everton have had a €28 million (£24.8 million) bid rejected for the player.

The Turkish international would be a welcome addition to Everton’s attacking line-up, especially given his preferred position on the right-wing.

If Everton wanted to gauge just how highly thought of the 21-year-old is in the Italian capital, they simply need to look at who he was brought in to replace.

Under was the man Roma felt could fill the boots of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

In 2017, Roma raided Basaksehir to sign the player after Liverpool prised Salah away from the Stadio Olimpico.

A fast, strong and left-footed right-winger it was easy to see where the comparisons came from.

In fact, speaking to Goal earlier this year, Under even mentioned the pressure of replacing Salah.

“It was very important for me that I was coming in to replace Salah as he did really well here. There was a lot of pressure but fortunately once I started scoring and became more involved – thanks to the help of all my team-mates – I really felt I was a part of the team.”

The Egyptian has of course since gone on to become a hero at Liverpool. Their best player by some distance last season his second campaign on Merseyside has ended with a Champions League title win.

Under has not been as impressive in the Italian capital as Salah was. But, it was not until joining Liverpool that the Egyptian truly demonstrated his world-class ability.

Perhaps a move to Everton could have the same impact for the Turkish talent.
