At the weekend it was reported that Everton are prepared to let three first-team players leave the club in January.
The Daily Mail has suggested that Everton could allow Cenk Tosun, Morgan Schneiderlin and Oumar Niasse all leave the club this month.
The trio cost Everton roughly a combined £60 million but have failed to have a withstanding impact at Goodison Park.
Another point that the potential sale of all three highlights is how dangerous doing business in January can be.
Many teams decide to avoid the January transfer market. Prices are higher, desperation sets in and it is easy to buy a flop.
All three of these unwanted Everton players are January recruits.
Tosun joined from Besiktas a year ago. In 2017, French international Schneiderlin joined from Manchester United. In 2016, Oumar Niasse was signed by Roberto Martinez. All were the club’s marquee January arrivals that season. Now, it looks like Everton could let them all go.
So perhaps it is best Everton avoid the temptation to buy players this month. Maybe waiting until the summer would allow them to bring in more suited recruits at Goodison Park.
