Everton transfer news: Toffees open talks to sign £15m striker
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Toffees this weekend. Frank Lampard’s men were beaten, at home, by the team at the bottom of the Premier League on Saturday.
The fans are at the end of their tether. And it does appear that Everton are in serious danger of being relegated from the Premier League this season.
Everton now in talks to sign Duvan Zapata
New signings must come in. And it seems that they are working on a potential deal. However, it is not necessarily a move that supporters will get too excited about.
According to the Sunday Mirror (15/1; page 70), Everton are working on a deal to take Zapata on loan with a £15 million option to buy in the summer. And talks are now underway.
Zapata is no stranger to being linked with the Premier League. The Mirror notes that the likes of West Ham and Newcastle have also made moves for the Colombian in the past. In fact, the latter was told that he would cost £35 million if they made his potential loan move permanent.
Zapata’s overall record for Atalanta is outstanding. He has scored 80 goals and contributed 39 assists in 173 games in all competitions for the club. However, this season has been a different story.
He has only scored one goal and provided one assist in 11 Serie A games this term. He has completed 90 minutes on just two occasions. And he has had issues with a hamstring injury.
He has the potential to be a good signing. FBRef lists Alexander Isak, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski as similar strikers.
But it is hard to get excited about anything to do with Everton right now. So if he does join, fans will probably be waiting for something to go wrong.
