Everton transfer news: Lampard makes move to sign 'special' England international
Everton have asked Chelsea about the prospect of signing England international Conor Gallagher this month.
The Daily Mail report that the Toffees are among the clubs who have shown an interest in the 22-year-old, who went to the World Cup.
Nottingham Forest, Southampton, last season’s loan club Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are all also keen on the midfielder.
The report says that Gallagher has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge while he is getting gametime and Graham Potter wants to keep him amid mounting injuries.
Everton ask about signing Gallagher
Gallagher has actually been compared to Toffees boss Frank Lampard in his playing style, by Palace manager Patrick Vieira back in May.
As per the Express, he said: “Conor has the desire to score goals like Frank used to have. Frank scored some unbelievable goals and an unbelievable number of goals.
“Sometimes he would get in there late inside the box and Conor has this same desire to score those goals. I see this kind of similarity between those two players.
“And if Conor manages to do half of what Frank did it would be a good start.”
Vieira knows a thing or two about being an elite central midfielder himself and is clearly a big fan of Gallagher, calling him ‘special‘ last season too.
The level of interest in Gallagher means it would be a really tough race to win his signature, if for some reason he and Potter both changed their stance.
As it stands, Everton need to look elsewhere if they want to bolster their midfield options this month, as they find themselves in another relegation battle.
