Everton transfer: 28-year-old reportedly nearing Goodison Park exit
Everton are close to finally offloading winger Bernard, with several clubs in the UAE chasing his signature, according to The Athletic.
Sharjah are one of the club’s keen and, although the player is actually in talks with several clubs over a move away from Goodison Park.
The Brazilian is one of several players Everton are trying to offload. Rafa Benitez is keen to make his mark on the squad and some fringer players could depart.
Bernard signed for the Toffees in August 2018 from Shakhtar, penning a four-year deal with the club. He has made 84 appearances in total, managing just eight goals and seven assists.
He has struggled massively for consistency and was close to a move away from the club during January. A move to Al-Nasr bore no fruit though and he remained at Everton.
Benitez has wasted no time in strengthening his ranks out wide. Andros Townsend has arrived already, with Demarai Gray close to joining too.
In 2018, Everton hero Leon Osman called Bernard a ‘little cracker’ after a fine performance on his debut. Sadly, he hasn’t been able to kick on.
Offloading Bernard looks like good business for Everton
According to Spotrac, Bernard is among Everton’s highest-earning players and getting him off the books would be wise indeed.
He will surely earn a lucrative deal in the UAE and it’s perhaps no surprise he’s talking to several clubs in that area.
It quite simply hasn’t worked out for Bernard at Everton and the time has come for him to move on.
The Toffees won’t miss him at Goodison Park and any move that can be arranged will surely suit all parties.
