Amid several Premier League clubs handing chances to their youngsters during Carabao Cup fixtures this week, Everton were one club seemingly keen to take the competition seriously.
Boss Marco Silva played a strong team at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night and reaped the rewards with his team winning 2-0.
Their reward for defeating the Championship outfit is a home game against Watford and perhaps the Toffees boss is eyeing up silverware.
One man who performed well in midweek was midfielder Tom Davies.

With league form stuttering the youngster could be handed the chance to shine in the Premier League this weekend against Manchester City.
The Toffees have lost three of their last four games in the top-flight and Silva could make some changes.
Morgan Schneiderlin didn’t cover himself in glory against Sheffield United last weekend; whilst Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes remain sidelined with injury issues.
That could open the door for Davies to win his first Premier League start of the campaign. If he does, he must prove to Silva what he can offer.
Capable
Although it was against second-tier opposition, the £25,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace offered a timely reminder of what he is capable of against the Owls.
According to Who Scored he had a pass success ratio of 88%; whilst he regained control of possession on no fewer than six occasions.

Everton aren’t likely to see much of the ball against a City side who won 8-0 last week, so when they do have it, keeping hold of it will be important.
The 21-year-old only started 10 games under Silva last season. He wasn’t overly fancied by the boss and this season hasn’t started much better.
His performance on Wednesday night was promising, however. With midfielders in short supply at the moment, performing well against Pep Guardiola’s side could be the catalyst for a prolonged run in the team.
