Everton target’s price rises from £16.8m to £77.4m after Manchester United show interest

Everton have now been handed a blow after interest from Manchester United caused a target’s price tag to soar.

The Toffees are keen to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from the Red Devils this summer, but in the meantime, those at Goodison Park may be frustrated after Manchester United joined them in wanting to buy a Colombia international.

Manchester United make Everton target Richard Rios more expensive

A story from UOL recently claimed that Everton are keen to sign Richard Rios from Palmeiras – after the Colombian shone at this summer’s Copa America.

The South American news outlet stated that Palmeiras would consider bids in the region of £16.8m – with Leicester City also showing interest.

Now – however – Manchester United have complicated things for Everton.

Spanish news outlet Sport believe Erik ten Hag’s side are now keen to sign Rios, which has caused Palmeiras to reconsider their asking price, given the stature of Manchester United and the club’s financial power.

It is said that Palmeiras are now only going to consider offers which meet the Colombian’s €90m (£77.4m) release clause – and will no longer entertain any bids in the region of £16.8m due to Manchester United’s interest.

Sport add that AC Milan and Juventus are also keen to sign Rios – so Everton’s chances of agreeing a deal now appear to be slim.

Palmeiras will surely reconsider

In our view, Palmeiras will reconsider this stance later on in the summer.

The 24-year-old’s value is currently sky high after he helped Colombia reach the Copa America final, and there may not be a better window for Palmeiras to sell, in terms of receiving the highest fee possible.

Despite the South American’s impressive Copa America, a sum of £77.4m is still an extraordinarily high asking price for a player from the Brasileiro Série A, so we doubt any sides will maintain their interest after hearing the new asking price.

That may lead Palmeiras to reconsider, or else the Brazilian giants risk missing out on the chance to secure a premium fee for Rios this summer after his heroics at the Copa America.
