Everton have reportedly been linked with Manchester United defender Chris Smalling recently, as he’s rediscovered his former this season out on loan with Roma in Italy.
According to the Mirror, the Toffees are one of the teams interested in trying to sign him on loan next summer when he returns to Old Trafford.
It is understood that Arsenal and Leicester City have also been keeping tabs on the 30-year-old’s performances in Serie A, where his Roma side currently sit fifth in the table.
The report explains that Smalling’s parent club Manchester United have an £18million valuation on his head.
Smalling appears to have reinvented himself since his move to Roma and is performing at a high level on a weekly basis for them.
He is a towering centre-back that is brilliant in the air and has an imposing presence, as well as being calm in possession.
The English enforcer has earned 31 senior caps for his nation, but hasn’t represented the Three Lions since 2017.
Everton should keep their eyes firmly peeled on how Smalling continues performing throughout the campaign, but the signs are he could be a shrewd addition next summer at just £18million.
The current centre-back options at Goodison Park are hardly pulling up any trees and Smelling could be an upgrade with his experience and power.
Michael Keane and Mason Holgate have both been inconsistent during their Everton careers, while Yerry Mina is yet to hit the heights he promised.
