Everton defeated Watford in the EFL Cup last night to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Toffees secured the win after Mason Holgate’s headed opener was topped off with Richarlison’s clinical breakaway finish in a 2-0 win.
Once again, Marco Silva named a strong side in the competition, suggesting he is not prepared to let potential silverware and Europa League qualification slip by him.

One downside to that fact is that Everton have not been blooding in youngsters in the EFL Cup fixtures. The likes of Lewis Gibson, Ryan Astley and Nathangelo Markelo will all be on the Everton first-team radar, but none have yet been given a chance to shine this season.
However, the undoubted star of the under-23 side Anthony Gordon can surely feel aggrieved not to yet receive an opportunity. The 18-year-old has been in sensational form for the club’s youngsters and the England youth-team this term and Everton fans have been calling for him to receive a chance in recent weeks. With Bernard now injured, Gordon might have a chance.
Unfortunately, again he was not selected for Everton’s senior side by Marco Silva and he sent out this tweet last night.
Of course, this could be in relation to the delivery of a washing machine and not his Everton career but it certainly seems cryptic considering the timing.
Everton secured Gordon to a new contract in March amid reported (Daily Mail) interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. That deal keeps him at the club until 2023 and ensures Everton will not lose him for nothing anytime soon.
But if he does not get a glimpse of first-team action soon, especially considering his form comparative to the first-team, then his patience will surely begin to wear thin.
