Everton tabled permanent bid for loanee Gomes which is expected to be accepted

Everton have already tabled a bid to buy Andre Gomes from Barcelona this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

They report that Inter Milan are keen to gatecrash Marco Silva’s attempts to sign the Portuguese loanee, but must wait until the end of the season to stump up the finances as they are dependent on their qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Everton, however, apparently have the money now and in a bid to beat a summer rush for his signature have already made an offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) for Gomes.

The report goes on to say that all that remains is for Barca to accept the offer and that negotiations have been going well, leaving Everton optimistic that a deal will be done.

Gomes has been a hit at Goodison Park this season, bringing guile and craft to a midfield that is otherwise full of industry and running.

Sometimes he can create too much for Idrissa Gueye to do, but there’s no doubt that he is the calibre of player Silva needs if he is to create a classier Everton side and compete for a place in the top six.

The good news for Everton is that Barcelona seem to be on board with their bid – the two clubs have a good working relationship after Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne also moved between the teams last summer – and they’ll hope it’s just a matter of time now.
