Chelsea have reportedly placed defender Kurt Zouma on their transfer list – which could now place Everton on red alert.
According to The Times, Blues chief Frank Lampard is ready to listen to offers for four of his defenders, including Andreas Christensen, Emerson, Marcos Alonso and Zouma.
The Frenchman has had an indifferent season at Stamford Bridge.
He has been a relative mainstay in the starting XI, but has not always been consistent – he certainly hasn’t shown the same form as during his loan spell with the Toffees in 2018/19.
Chelsea conceded an alarming 54 goals in the Premier League in 2019/20, which has unsurprisingly led to speculation of a potential overhaul.
With Chelsea now apparently ready to sanction the Frenchman’s departure, this is surely Everton’s golden opportunity to swoop.
TBR’s View – Everton must act swiftly
It may not have been an outstanding season from Zouma, but it is somewhat surprising he’s apparently a player the club are willing to sell.
One would imagine that other teams may fancy taking the £77,000-a-week player, as he has plenty of Premier League experience and can be very dominant at the back on his day.
Zouma really impressed at Goodison Park throughout the 2018/19 campaign and quickly became a fan favourite.
It was reported by Le10 Sport last month that Carlo Ancelotti did want the star back at the club.
Chelsea would likely want to receive a much higher fee than the £12 million (BBC Sport) they paid Saint-Etienne for him, but a deal is surely worth pursuing by Everton who are short of options in central defence.
