Everton summer target Adama Soumaoro reportedly prefers PL switch

A player linked with Everton earlier this year has reportedly now decided he wants a move to the Premier League in 2020.

According to L’Equipe, the Lille defender could be on the move with interest strong from Germany.

Soumaoro, who is club captain, has only played five games so far this season, and plays second fiddle to Jose Fonte and Gabriel Magalhaes.

He has been with Lille his whole career, and would apparently prefer a move to England rather than the Bundesliga.

The club would be tempted to sell for around €13-15 million/£11-13 million according to the report.

The development comes after La Voix Du Nord reported in the summer that Everton were considering a move for the Frenchman.

The Toffees are currently light on central defenders having failed to land Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal from Chelsea, who were hit with a transfer ban at the time.

TBR’s view – Underwhelming addition for Everton?

Soumaoro’s preference for a move to the Premier League may well see Everton reignite their interest, but should they be aiming a little higher now?

Soumaoro is currently out of favour at Lille, suggesting that perhaps he wouldn’t be too much of an improvement on the current options at Goodison Park.

With Carlo Ancelotti now at the helm, perhaps Everton have the potential to attract higher-profile names who are regulars at their current teams.
