Dominic Calvert-Lewin has claimed he wants to be the main man at Everton and believes he’s set the bar in his recent performances.

The Toffees have been searching for a serious replacement at striker since Romelu Lukaku left back in 2017 to join Manchester United.

Calvert-Lewin has got his chance under Marco Silva recently to prove his qualities and he’s managed eight goals in 33 games across all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old centre-forward has become the first-choice options at the point of attack and is proving he can lead the line effectively.

He cost the Merseyside club just £1.5million (Sky Sports) back in 2016 from Sheffield United and is a highly-rated talent at Goodison Park.

Calvert-Lewin has explained that becoming a prolific goalscorer will help him reach the next level and he will be looking to build on two goals in his last five league matches.

“Goals are going to get me to where I want to be and I want to score goals for Everton at the moment, so my goal now is to get Everton as high up as possible and to be the main man here,” Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports.

“It is my time to show what I’m capable of. I’ve set the bar pretty well in the last five games that I’ve played in.

TBR’s View:

Calvert-Lewin is an intriguing player at Everton that at times can look a world-beater, but in other games can go missing.

The England Under-21 international has the physical presence and quality in the air that makes him a real danger, while he’s got a great work-rate and is also willing to make runs beyond the last defender.

He’s got a lot of tools to his game, but he won’t be able to reach the top bracket unless he finds the back of the net more often and becomes more clinical.

Calvert-Lewin certainly deserves to be in the mentioning when it comes to the forward line next year, but perhaps signing a proven older striker too to challenge him would make sense for Silva.
