Everton striker Cenk Tosun appears to have set the wheels in motion for a summer exit from the club, after implying he is homesick.

The Turkey international has been in Merseyside now for a little over a year after signing for the club from Besiktas while Sam Allardyce was in charge.

Tosun impressed initially, but has struggled to nail down his place in Marco Silva’s starting XI.

Tosun has made 25 appearances this term across all competitions, but only 10 have been starts.

He has struggled to get into the side with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Tosun to leave?

It could be that Tosun’s time is coming to an end at Goodison Park, after he revealed he misses people back home.

He told TRT Spor: “My ultimate aim was to play in the best league in the world. For me, the Premier League is the best league in the world. I worked very hard to come here, I sacrificed a lot of things. At the end, I am here now, and I am very pleased to play here.

“I am loving the life here. But of course, I am missing my country and my friends. I am not here to stay forever, I came here to represent Turkey and our flag. Of course, I want to return to Turkey when the timing is right.”

Given Silva’s apparent refusal to trust Tosun, one wonders if the timing will be sooner rather than later.

He was signed for £27 million (Sky Sports) and had a good goalscoring record in Turkey. It’s a place with good memories for him, memories that must make sitting on the bench so much at Everton frustrating for him.

It can be difficult for players who were signed by other managers and that seems to be very much the case with Tosun.
