Everton: Star linked with move; pursuit of defender to resume; Norwegian youngster linked
There’s plenty to digest on the transfer front at Goodison Park this morning, but from an Everton fan’s perspective it is probably better to do away with the bad news first, and it is certainly a blow if reports from the Mirror are to be believed.
The outlet claims that French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, who are currently eager to bolster their forward line, are plotting a raid on Merseyside for Everton’s Belgian international star Romelu Lukaku, and they are prepared to test Everton’s resolve with a January bid for the leading scorer.
Ronald Koeman recently declared that he has no plans to offload the striker for the foreseeable future, but the Parisian club are known to be eager suitors of the 23-year-old who already has seven Premier League goals to his name this campaign.
The Liverpool Echo quotes Lukaku himself discussing the rumours in an interview with French TV as saying: “[My agent] never tells me anything. As long as there is nothing, black and white and on paper, he will not bother me with it and I respect that”.
“That is his way of working. I know they [interested clubs] are there though.”
There is also much to take from Everton investor Farhad Moshiri’s words on TalkSport yesterday, and the Liverpool Echo has picked out very specifically his verdict on some of the transfer targets that slipped through the Toffees’ fingers over the summer, one of which was Sunderland centre-half Lamine Koné.
Everton were unable to shatter the Black Cats’ resolve with £16m bid for the defender over the summer, but that could change with the Mirror reporting that Sunderland boss David Moyes, formerly of Everton, is to press on in January with a bid for Dynamo Kiev’s Croatian international defender Domagoj Vida, which could pave the way for Koné to move to Merseyside if his pursuit of the Croat proves successful.
Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo has picked up some interesting reports emerging from Norway surrounding one of the country’s young prodigies, Rafik Zekhnini. The 18-year-old forward was allegedly absent from his club Odd Grenland over the weekend, and the CEO of the Tippeligaen outfit claimed that he had met with a club in England, believed to be the Toffees.
The Echo quotes the Odd Grenland CEO, Einar Handlykken, as saying in Norwegian outlet Varden:
“Rafik is not here today because he has been given permission to travel and meet a club that have shown interest in him.
“We have received bids on him, but can not say anything about which club this is.”
The youngster is thought of as being amongst the most promising up and coming teenage players in Europe. He has netted seven goals in 33 appearances for Odd Grenland so far, and if reports are to be believed, then Ronald Koeman has now identified him as an ideal target to continue his revamp at Goodison and build for the future.
