Jonjoe Kenny has posted a touching message to Schalke supporters after his loan with the German Bundesliga club came to an end – but has the Everton defender hinted that he wants to stay at Schalke?
Kenny, 23, chose to leave Everton and move to the Bundesliga last summer on loan – with plenty of other English players opting to try their luck in Germany. Jadon Sancho has set an example at Borussia Dortmund.
The right-back had played 40 times for Everton’s senior team but was third choice behind Djibril Sidibe and Seamus Coleman when he left. He has since starred for Schalke, playing 31 times as his loan side finished 12th.
Clearly striking a connection with the Schalke supporters, Kenny posted a heartfelt message to his loan side’s fans – and thanked the club for the opportunity. But he also said: “Hopefully we’ll see eachother again”.

Season finished for @s04, its been nothing but a pleasure to play for this club despite the ups and downs, I came here to play week in, week out and i want to say thanks to the manager for making that possible! Also to my team mates who have been unbelievable with me helping me to settle in as well as to play with such a good group of lads. Lastly i want to thank the fans for their unbelievable support home and away in every game, no matter how the game was going! It is something i definitely wont forget. Hopefully we'll see each other again! #glückauf
TBR’s view – Kenny’s next move?
The Bundesliga certainly suited Kenny, though the Liverpool-born star will be desperate to prove he should be first choice at Everton. Sidibe has done okay since joining on loan, and he may join permanently.
Coleman remains a consistent performer but is now 31 years of age. Should Kenny wait at Everton to finally break past the Irish right-back? Or should he move to pastures new? If he chooses the latter, he will not be short of suitors.
