Everton are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez and in doing so, they might have just ensured the future of star forward, Richarlison.
Sky Sports claims that the Toffees are now in serious discussions with Madrid and Rodriguez over a deal which would see the Colombian star arrive at Goodison Park.

And while the addition of Rodriguez would be massive in itself, it should also convince the club’s top stars that the ambition is there within the club and that Carlo Ancelotti is indeed going to be backed.
Richarlison, of course, is Everton’s biggest asset. Goals, assists, and a talent which has seen the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona cast admiring glances have ensured the Brazilian is loved on Merseyside.
So, with Rodriguez coming through the door, it should give the forward the confidence that the Toffees are moving forward and looking to improve, in the short-term at least, on what was a poor campaign last year.
Real quality despite an off few years
Make no mistake about it, James Rodriguez is the real deal and, on his day, can be one of the most lethal attacking midfield players in Europe.
It doesn’t seem two minutes since he lit up the World Cup in Brazil with a stunning display for Colombia. Since then, it’s not all been doom and gloom either.

Indeed, the basic stats tell a good story. 29 goals and 28 assists in just 85 La Liga appearances aren’t bad going at all. Indeed, even with Bayern Munich, he’s managed 14 goals and 15 assists in just 43 Bundesliga displays. (Stats via Transfermarkt)
That sort of attacking prowess does not come around very often, especially for teams such as Everton.
So, after threatening to knock on the door for so many seasons and a number of signings not quite working out, Everton may finally be getting their superstar in Rodriguez.
Add that to the bonus of convincing Richarlison and co to stay put and maybe, just maybe, this might be the year the Toffees fulfil their potential.
