Everton shouldn’t panic buy and spend £35m on Chelsea striker Batshuayi

Everton want to sign Belgian international striker Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, according to the Guardian.

They report that Batshuayi’s loan spell with Valencia has reached a standstill as he has not made an appearance for the Spanish club since the start of the month.

The La Liga side want to release him early, which apparently raises the prospect of him being recalled to Stamford Bridge in order to be sold.

And because the Toffees have struggled to find a reliable frontman all season, they reportedly want to land Batshuayi, but he will apparently cost £35m.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports report that any swoop for Batshuayi will depend on the Toffees’ ability to offload Cenk Tosun before the deadline, with Crystal Palace apparently interested in his services.

But Tosun serves as a reminder that spending big on a striker in the middle of the season is not always the answer and can actually create more harm than good; Marco Silva is struggling with that transfer blunder made by Sam Allardyce.

And Batshuayi has failed to consistently impress in England – there is little evidence from his Chelsea spell that he could be the answer to Everton’s goalscoring woes – so a £35m asking price looks steep, for a club who are now out of all the cup competitions and only playing to finish seventh at best.
