Everton shouldn’t give up on Memphis Depay amid reported £27m asking price

Lyon would reportedly take €30 million/£27 million for striker Memphis Depay – and at such a price, Everton have to fight Ronald Koeman and Barcelona all the way.

L’Equipe (via GFFN) claim the French outfit have slapped that particular price on the Netherlands international knowing he can walk for free in a year’s time.

Apparently a bid is expected from Barcelona, who are ushering in a new dawn that does not appear to include Luis Suarez.

It was reported by The Sun recently that the Toffees do have interest in the 26-year-old, who hit a hat-trick in Lyon’s Ligue 1 opener against Dijon.

Depay has been a real hit since ending his Manchester United nightmare in 2017, hitting 57 goals and making 43 assists in 139 games in all competitions for his current side.

Carlo Ancelotti has landed Allan, and is expected to complete deals for James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure soon, and a further move for Depay would be round things off nicely.

TBR’s View – £27 million for Depay is good value

He may have suffered an ACL injury last season, but Depay’s destruction of Dijon is a suggestion he’s coming back to his best.

He has been brilliant since joining Lyon and has added real maturity and consistency to his game in a central striking role.

He is a big attacking threat once again, and the goals and assists statistics are very impressive.

Everton look to be having a great window, and it’ll become an excellent one if they can elbow aside their old boss Koeman and bring Depay back to the Premier League.
