Everton are said to be in the running for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The French international has reportedly been watched by chief scout Martyn Glover. The Liverpool Echo reports that the £40 million star is high up on the club’s targets to improve their central midfield position.
The likes of Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool are all said to be keen on the player, who at 21-years-old is becoming one of Europe’s top commodities. Considering Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is a notoriously tough negotiator luring him away from the French side will not be easy.
Everton, therefore, will need a little extra to give them the edge.
One potential option they have is to use Morgan Schneiderlin as a makeweight.
The French international now appears to be an outcast at Goodison Park. The arrival of Andre Gomes has pushed him out. With Idrissa Gana Gueye and Tom Davies also ahead of him in the pecking order, Schneiderlin’s time at Everton appears done.
A £22 million signing by Ronald Koeman, he has struggled to win over Everton fans. At one point, he was being booed by his own supporters.
But he is still a player with a great reputation and ability. He earned a move to Manchester United and has 15 caps for the French national team.
Lyon would love to secure his return to French football, where he has not played since leaving Strasbourg for Southampton in 2008. The fact he would be a direct replacement for the man they would be losing would also help Everton’s cause.
Throwing Schneiderlin into any Ndombele deal could give Everton the edge they need to secure his services.
