Arsenal are interested in Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi to boost their backline, according to the Sun.
They report that Unai Emery is keen on the defender who can play in either full-back role and at centre half as well, but he is unable to match Betis’ asking price until the summer.
Mandi reportedly has a £27m release clause in his current deal, but with the Gunners exclusively shopping in the loan market this month, he may well remain in Spain until the end of the season.
But it does create an opportunity for another club to swoop in before then, and Everton could still do with defensive reinforcements despite the improvement made so far under Marco Silva.
Everton have spent big of late and another expensive purchase may not be top of Silva’s priority list right now but the opportunity to nip in front of Arsenal may force the powers that be into a rethink.
The Toffees are still in need of more new arrivals to completely overhaul their defence and Mandi’s versatility would be a real asset back there.
If Arsenal won’t step up just yet, Everton have a chance to land Mandi instead.
