Everton should revisit old interest in Daniele Rugani in deal that would hopefully kick Moise Kean into gear

Everton still need to bring in another central defender after failing to add in that position over the summer. Whilst the form of Mason Holgate has been a welcome relief, Michael Keane’s disappointing season and Yerry Mina’s injury record has Everton still looking short at the back.

One player that Everton fans should hope remains on the club’s radar from the pre-Marcel Brands era is Daniele Rugani. Because not only could he be a brilliant addition at the back, but he could have an excellent impact on the team in attack.

Everton were linked with Rugani back in 2016. As reported by Calciomercato, Everton made a £25.5 million bid for the Juventus youngster which was swiftly rejected by the Bianconeri.

Rugani was and still is considered one of Italy’s top young talents at centre-back. However, he is struggling for regular playing time in Turin.

With the seven-cap Italian international looking like missing out on Euro 2020 as a consequence, he would surely be open to a move to Everton, even if only on loan, to get regular football and try and impress Azzurri boss Roberto Mancini.

Not only would Rugani add some serious class to Everton’s centre-back area it would also be a huge boost for Moise Kean. Kean has struggled since his reported (The Guardian) £29 million move from Juventus and Rugani could prove a huge help in helping him settle in.

The pair will know each other well from their time together with Juve and it would give Kean another fluent Italian speaker in the changing room to aid the 19-year-old’s transition.

For both reasons, a move for Rugani would be an absolute coup for Everton in January. Hopefully, it is a transfer they go on to consider.
