Everton sit in the relegation places of the Premier League table during the current international break and there is a lot of pressure building at Goodison Park.
Manager Marco Silva needs a response desperately from his team when domestic football resumes, with the Toffees hosting West Ham next on 19 October at Goodison Park.
The Merseyside cub were beaten 1-0 away to Burnley last weekend and there are a number of individuals that are struggling to discover top form this season.
Bernard was someone overlooked for the Burnley fixture and left on the bench in that match, as well as missing the previous league match too through illness in the defeat to Manchester City.
But the 27-year-old deserves a recall to the team after the international break after starting just one of the last five league fixtures.
Bernard’s only goal so far this season was in the 1-0 win at home to Watford in the league and he did make a positive start to the campaign before his levels dropped.
The left-winger has watched on from the sidelines in recent times and the team has missed his energy.
He may not get the goals required from the wide attacking area, but he has a tremendous work-rate and does possess the ability to rinse a full-back with his trickery.
It could be a masterstroke from Silva to recall Bernard in the next match, as one of his three goals in an Everton shirt came last season in an away win against West Ham.
The Brazilian will have fond memories of playing the London club and it should give him some confidence if restored to the left flank.
Silva needs to mix it up to get a response from his Everton players, as he surely has to help his team climb up the table quickly to stay in his position.
