Everton have been reportedly linked with a move for Southampton defender Cedric Soares this month.
According to the Sun in its print edition (11 January 2019, page 53), the Toffees are considering a £15million raid in the January transfer window for the right-back.
The report detailed that the Saints are willing to sell the 27-year-old, which leaves the door open for a potential deal.
But the Merseyside club should reconsider plans to sign the Portugal international after his underwhelming performance on Wednesday night.
Cedric played the full 120 minutes for Southampton against Championship opposition Derby County, which they ended up losing on penalties.
The full-back showed his versatility by playing on both flanks, but demonstrated that he’s gone backwards at St Mary’s in recent times.
His crossing was poor throughout the contest and he lacked an attacking threat, while defensively he was caught out several times and gave away the foul which led to a Derby goal.
Everton could do with a new right-back to become the successor to Seamus Coleman, who himself has seen his form dip at Goodison Park.
But Marco Silva’s side need to go out and sign a quality replacement if they are to nudge Coleman out of the starting XI.
Cedric is an experienced defender that has at time been quality in the Premier League, but his recent displays was a highlight into his inconsistent performances this season and it should worry Everton.
