Everton should ignore West Brom plans to sign Mason Holgate permanently

Everton defender Mason Holgate joined West Brom in the Championship in January and has found top form at the Hawthorns.

The 22-year-old is a centre-back by trade, but has been a real success at right-back and looks like ending up in the Championship play-offs with the Baggies.

According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom would be keen on trying to sign the Englishman on a permanent basis in the summer if they earn promotion to the top flight.

But Everton would be foolish to entertain interest and should bring him straight back to Goodison Park ahead of next year.

Holgate may finally have found his best position at full-back and the right-back slot in Marco Silva’s squad does need addressing next year.

Holgate is improving and taking so much out of his loan spell which should help him return to Everton to compete for a regular position next year.

West Brom’s interest highlights the impact he’s on had their side in just a few months and that he’s got massive potential.

Everton really could regret offloading Holgate if they consider it and should give him another opportunity to make his make.

He’s a physical presence that is decent defensively and could also offer a lot going forward, with three assists already for West Brom since his January switch.
