According to the Watford Observer, the Watford hierarchy have approached the agent of PSV Eindhoven star Gaston Pereiro.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder’s current contract with the Dutch outfit expires in the summer of 2020. Time may therefore be running out for PSV to cash in on Pereiro for a fee commensurate with his true value.
Watford would certainly be wise to launch a bid for the 9-cap Uruguay international. The versatile attacker shone in the Eredivisie last season, racking up 10 goals and 6 assists. However, before he can be tempted to Vicarage Road, Everton should enter the race for his signature.
The Toffees could do with an affordable addition to their squad, who can provide some competition for the likes of Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson. A punt on Pereiro would certainly be worthwhile from Marco Silva’s perspective.
The Watford Observer believe Pereiro’s services could be secured this summer for a “reasonable price”. Given the Uruguayan’s versatility, that allows him to play out wide as well as centrally, and his record for scoring and creating goals, he certainly represents a worthy investment. Considering his age, he would also arrive with plenty of potential resale value.
Everton could likely triumph over Watford in a battle for his signature. That is a race that the Merseyside club would be wise to enter this summer.
