Everton winger Theo Walcott failed to make much of an impact at Old Trafford yesterday.
Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 and some fans are blaming Walcott for his part in both goals.
For the first goal, both Seamus Coleman and Walcott left Idrissa Gueye ruthlessly exposed in a one-on-one with Anthony Martial.
Gueye was adjudged to have fouled Martial, leading to a penalty which Paul Pogba missed but scored the rebound.
Then, shortly after the second-half started, Coleman and Walcott once again allowed Martial too much space.
The young Frenchman took his goal well to give Man United a two-goal lead.
Walcott did not make up for his lack of defensive effort with any attacking menace.
In fact, the 29-year-old looks like the weak link in this Everton side at the minute and he might need a rest.
With two exciting and lively young wingers waiting on the bench, Marco Silva’s decision is surely straight-forward.
Either Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Ademola Lookman needs to be given a starting spot when Everton host Brighton next weekend.
Calvert-Lewin already has four goals this season, which is more than Walcott despite playing much less than him.
And Lookman seems bright every time he comes off the bench, with one assist to his name this term.
Either Lookman deserves his first start of the season or Calvert-Lewin needs to be recalled.
And it is Walcott who must drop to the bench to make way for these promising and exciting youngsters.
