Everton go into the new season in need of defensive reinforcements, as they look short of genuine senior options at centre-back.
The Toffees have lost veteran Phil Jagielka, while Kurt Zouma has returned to Chelsea for now following his loan spell at Goodison Park.
That leaves manager Marco Silva to select from the likes of Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate in the heart of defence.
The Merseyside club should look to seize on the uncertainty around Newcastle, where they are in turmoil after the departure of manager Rafael Benitez.
According to the Sun, there could be an exodus of five senior players from Newcastle and one of them named is Fabian Schar.
Schar would reportedly listen to an approach this summer to leave St James’ Park.
Everton should consider a raid for the 27-year-old in the summer and try make him switch Premier League clubs.
Newcastle signed Schar last summer for just £3million (BBC) after activating a release clause and he turned out to be a complete bargain.
The ball-playing centre-back played 28 games across all competitions last season and weighed in with four goals too.
He’s a defender that is extremely comfortable in possession and often made trademark runs into midfield, while he’s a great passer of the ball too.
The Switzerland international has certainly shown he can cut it in the English top flight and Everton should look to him if he becomes available to strengthen their defensive options.
