According to ESPN, Marcus Rojo will consider leaving Manchester United this summer if he feels he will find his first team opportunities limited at Old Trafford.
The versatile defender joined the Red Devils from Sporting in 2014. Since then, he has made just 113 appearances for the Premier League giants. Last season, the 29-year-old was only able to rack up five Premier League outings. However, his lack of game time over the years has largely been due to multiple injuries and recurring fitness concerns.
When fit and at his best, Rojo is a fine defender. He has featured for Manchester United during their pre-season fixtures and looks ready for the new campaign. However, with Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe all also vying for roles in the heart of the United defence, it remains to be seen if there is room for Rojo in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
If the Argentine decides that now is the right time for a fresh start, then Everton ought to be swift to swoop for his signature. Following the departures of Ashley Williams and Kurt Zouma from Goodison Park, the Toffees are light on numbers at the back.
Rojo would bring plenty of quality and experience to Marco Silva’s side. His arrival would also be a statement of intent, showing that Everton are serious about pushing for the top four.
