Everton should build their team around £30 million target Djene Dakonam

Everton are believed to be pursuing a £30 million move for Getafe defender Djene Dakonam, according to Spanish outlet MARCA, which could give them the kind of base they need to build around.

The centre-back has been one of the club’s star players ever since joining in 2017, leading the team to promotion from Segunda Division, then taking the club close to Europe last season with the side currently in the top four in La Liga.

Djene would bring the kind of consistency and composure on the ball that Marco Silva is clearly looking for, to improve on a backline which has been strewn with errors at times this season.

In the 27-year-old, Silva would know that he would get the physicality of Yerry Mina but with a much more rounded profile given his impressive form in Spain.

The likes of Leicester City and Arsenal have been linked, by France Football and AS respectively, so competition may be tough even though the Togo international has a release clause set at £30 million.

If Silva is to remain in charge long-term at Goodison Park, Djene is the kind of talent that he should look to build a team around to strengthen and climb up the table.
