Everton fans have been left thoroughly impressed by the performances Andre Gomes this season. The Barcelona loanee has been in fine form for the Toffees. His midfield displays have earned him favourable comparisons to Mikel Arteta and fans at Goodison Park are swooning over his displays.
Strong, agile, positive and, intelligent he is everything needed from a modern-day Premier League midfielder.
Such was the impressive return of his form it attracted the interest of his international team. Gomes received a recall for the Portugal national team this week. He was placed in Fernando Santos’ squad for games with Poland and Italy.

After missing out on the World Cup after a poor campaign at the Nou Camp, it was a much-needed boost for the Everton midfielder.
However, he will not be featuring. Gomes has pulled out of the Portugal side as he is not fit to play.
Everton should not be alarmed by this news. It is not believed he has a serious injury. Gomes did not make his first-team debut for Everton until October as he aimed to recover from a hamstring injury. It would seem that this international break will now allow Gomes to rest up and maintain his fitness going forward.
No doubt in the future Everton would like to see him playing for Portugal again. But right now, maintaining his fitness is of paramount importance.
