Everton should be looking at another Barcelona player this summer

Everton remain in the hunt to sign Andre Gomes – but there’s another Barcelona player the club should be targeting as well as the midfielder.

The Portugal international spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Goodison Park and earned rave reviews for his elegant style.

The club want Gomes as one of their own, but reportedly face competition from West Ham United for his services (Sky Sports).

In the eyes of many Evertonians, Gomes is the absolute priority this summer.

But the Toffees should not leave Barcelona alone if they do sign Gomes – full-back Nelson Semedo is very much a player Marco Silva could do with.

The Toffees are going to have to start thinking about life after Seamus Coleman.

The Republic of Ireland international is now 30 years of age and is arguably on the decline.

His form picked up towards the end of 2018/19, but the former Sligo Rovers defender is arguably not the same player these days following his horror leg break in 2017.

Barca star Semedo – who earns £75,000-a-week (Total Sportek) – wants out of the Nou Camp according to Sport, with Sergi Roberto having been preferred for the big games last term.

Young prospect Moussa Wague is to be promoted to the first-team for 2019/20, meaning regular opportunites could be even harder to come by for the Portugal international.

Aged just 25, Semedo could be a great long-term investment for Everton.
