Everton should be aiming higher than reported target Lucas Ocampos

Everton are again being linked with a move for Marseille winger Lucas Ocampos. Le10 Sport is reporting that Marseille may have to sell the player this summer to help them through their Financial Fair Play problems.

The same report later cites La Provence as stating the Argentine is valued at €15 million (£13.4 million) by Marseille.

It is not the first time that Everton have been linked with Ocampos this summer. As reported by Calciomercato in April, Everton were looking at the wideman.

Ocampos was once considered something of a wonderkid when he left River Plate for Monaco in 2012. However, the 24-year-old has not quite lived up to those expectations.

A move to Marseille in 2015 has not massively improved his European standing. Loan spells at Genoa and AC Milan have been mixed in success.

A perhaps telling tale of his stunted progress is his international career. After catching the eye at under-17 level with Argentina he has not gone on to represent his nation at any further age group.

His 16 goals in 2017-18 looked like the dawn of a talent realisation at Marseille. However, he managed just five goals and eight assists last season.

It is hardly the form of a player that is going to greatly improve Everton’s current wide options. Everton fans will rightly be hoping for something a little more eye-catching in the summer transfer market.
