Everton scouts were hopefully checking out Joao Felix this weekend

According to reports in Portugal, it appears Everton have been on something of a scouting mission. Benfica defeated Aves 2-0 at the Estadio Da Luz this weekend, with Record reporting that Everton had scouts present at the game.

Everton, who are managed by Portuguese 41-year-old Marco Silva, would no doubt have had plenty of talented players to run the rule over in the game.

But the one man that Everton fans should hope they were clamouring for is attacking midfielder Joao Felix.

The 18-year-old talent is looking like the next star of Portuguese football and has had a host of names linked with his services. He was again brilliant at the weekend. Felix scored in the win, but unfortunately had to leave the field with an ankle injury in the second half.

In fact, when West Ham were said to be keeping tabs earlier this month, a mammoth release clause was being quoted.

According to Record, Benfica were preparing to include a £107 million release clause in his new deal at the club. Such a fee is a typical deterrent from Portuguese clubs, but still highlights the high esteem in which his club hold Felix.

Everton would of course not pay such an extravagant fee in the future and, in reality, Benfica would not ask for it. But the Toffees will hopefully be keeping tabs on this exceptional teenage talent as he could go on to become a world-beater.
