Everton scout reportedly watches Hertha Berlin in action, three potential targets named
Everton reportedly watched Hertha Berlin in friendly action this week and SportBild has mentioned the three players they might have been watching.
Hertha were taking on Karlsruhe in a friendly match, which ended in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
It meant Hertha won the pre-season mini-tournament they were participating in.
Everton were said to be watching. Whilst SportBild did not go into detail about any potential interest in players, they profiled the three players Everton might be interested in.
The players in question were Marvin Plattenhardt, Davie Selke and Karim Rekik.
Plattenhardt will be no surprise. Everton have been strongly linked before.
As reported by Sky Sports, Everton were keen on potentially signing the German international after the World Cup. The Daily Star later suggested a £16 million transfer fee. It looked a done deal. However, Plattenhardt decided to remain in the German capital. Everton swiftly moved on, signing Lucas Digne from Barcelona.
Rekik might not be a surprise name either. The 24-year-old was signed as a two-year loanee from Manchester City by Everton’s current sporting director Marcel Brands during his time at PSV Eindhoven. With Everton struggling to get a deal done for Kurt Zouma, another centre-back option would not be a surprise.
Everton have also been linked with Selke in the past, but not under the current regime. However, another striker would be welcome at Goodison Park and the 24-year-old is highly-rated.
Of the three, Rekik seems the most plausible given the need for a new centre-back and his history with Brands.
Selke had a poor campaign last season and would not strengthen the striking ranks. Meanwhile, Plattenhardt’s time to join Everton has seemingly passed. The club now has good coverage at left-back.
But time will tell if Everton do act on any of their scouting regarding Hertha Berlin players.
