Everton manager Ronald Koeman has given teenager Ademola Lookman some words of advice after his cameo during Everton’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City last night.

Lookman came on as a substitute with 20 minutes left as Everton looked for a winner at the Bet365 Stadium, and despite threatening twice Koeman has acknowledged there is a lot of room for improvement in the ex-Charlton man.

Speaking after yesterday’s match, the Dutchman said:

“I told the boy after the game that we need him between the lines more in front of the midfield players.

“Several times he came back on the same lines as our midfield players. He needs to bring that speed and quality more up the pitch and he’ll be more dangerous.

“He’s a young boy and he needs to learn. With game time he will improve but okay it’s possible that in the next couple of weeks he can start because he’s a quality player.”

Lookman burst on to the scene at Goodison Park after scoring with his first touch in the 4-0 demolition of Manchester City in January, and he’s set to be a huge part of Everton’s future plans.

Despite being held to a stalemate at Stoke, Seamus Coleman celebrated his 200th Premier League appearance for the Toffees by orchestrating Everton’s equaliser – seven years after his debut.

Coleman’s cross deflected into the Stoke goal off of Ryan Shawcross shortly before half-time, but the Irish defender was denied consecutive Premier League goals after it went down as an own-goal.

Discussing the incident post-match, Coleman insisted that the goal should be his. He said:

“I’m claiming it 100%.

“I’ve cut inside, hit a shot, just trying to get it on target with my left foot and from my angle it looks like it goes into the bottom corner.

“Whether the keeper saves it is another thing but the rules are if it’s going on target it’s a goal. I know the camera angle isn’t the best but I’m 100% claiming that one.

“My goal – fifth of the season!”

Whether the goal is eventually awarded to Coleman or not, the Everton defender will remain the Toffees’ second top goal-scorer this season – one ahead of Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley.

Everton’s January signing Morgan Schneiderlin has spoken out after he made his full first-team debut last night and insists that he will only improve with time.

The ex-Manchester United and Southampton midfielder played the whole 90 minutes on Wednesday evening, his first full match this season, and has urged fans to be patient as he adjusts to life at Goodison Park.

He said:

“The fans were brilliant, so I’d like to thank them for that. But it’s just the start. I want to give a lot more, I can give a lot more and I will do that when I get into my rhythm. I’m sure we will complete some great things.”

Schneiderlin also played under Koeman at Southampton, and has cited this link for helping him settle down at Goodison Park quicker than he had expected.

“I’m settling in well. The lads have been brilliant with me. Obviously I knew the technical staff and everyone has made it easy. I have the trust of everyone so that makes me very happy now I can enjoy my football. It was good to have 90 minutes.”

The 27-year-old left Old Trafford in a £22 million move, after only making three appearances under Jose Mourinho.
