Everton have reportedly cooled their interest in Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to The Chronicle.
The Toffees have been linked with the player earlier in the summer. However, it appears the club currently have their mind on bringing in a left-back – namely Kieran Tierney of Celtic.
Everton are also trying to clear out some of the deadwood and until those operations are done, Lascelles looks off the table.
Everton left-back Luke Garbutt will spend next season out on loan at Oxford United. The former England under-21 international was once considered the natural successor to Leighton Baines at the back for Everton.
However, his career has veered off course in recent years with loan spells at Fulham and Wigan failing to be successful.
The 25-year-old will now be looking to thrive in League One and eventually make a permanent move from Goodison Park.
Everton have returned to pre-season training. Only Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Idrissa Gana Gueye were not present because of World Cup duty.
Even those expected to move on were present. Sandro Ramirez, Kevin Mirallas, Davy Klaassen and Mo Besic all trained. James McCarthy continued rehabilitation from a double leg fracture whilst Ashley Williams began his recovery from a punctured lung.
Midfield talent Tom Davies turned up looking like rockstar Marc Bolan, sending Twitter into a spiral of appreciation and ridicule.

The squad underwent fitness tests and Gueye and Sigurdsson should join up with their team-mates next week.
